3 Signs Your Chevy Needs a Transmission Repair

Transmission Leak

The transmission depends on the constant flow of fluid to keep it working at its best. Transmission fluid performs a variety of functions, including reducing the temperature, protecting the numerous components against friction, and providing hydraulic power for the gears. A leak can change all of this, as a lack can result in transmission damage.

Transmission fluid can leak from several places, but the most common leak site is from a worn transmission pan gasket. This gasket fits underneath the pan where transmission fluid is stored. If the gasket isn’t checked according to the service schedule, its seals can fail, and you’ll start to lose fluid. Our technicians will examine the gasket and other sites for a leak and repair it.

Buzzing, Whining, and Humming

A healthy transmission doesn’t make any sound as it works away. If you start to hear strange noises, this is a clue that something is going wrong. The first sign of this type of problem is a low-pitched buzzing that gradually rises in tone. If the issue isn’t resolved, the buzzing will turn into whining or humming noises. All of these sounds point to a transmission problem.

One of the main reasons for strange transmission noises is a lack of fluid. As we’ve seen, transmission fluid protects the various components against friction. Most of the parts in the transmission depend on friction to work correctly. Another possibility is a blocked transmission filter that prevents fluid from easily moving through the transmission. We’ll examine the transmission and fix the cause of the problem.

Check Engine Light

If your transmission isn’t working correctly, this will impact the engine. The two components share a symbiotic relationship, the engine produces power, and the transmission shifts this power to the wheels. If your transmission is struggling to work effectively, your engine will work harder to try and compensate for the problem.

Worn gear teeth, a leak, or other issues will trigger sensors in the transmission. These sensors will relay the problem to your computer, which then activates the engine light. Our technicians will check your car’s computer to identify the problem and then repair it.
