3 Favorite Biking Trails in Driving Distance of Johnson City, TN
Biking is an excellent option if you’re looking to spend some time outside and get some exercise. With Asheville, NC, a mountain biking mecca, just over an hour away, there are plenty of places to ride your bike around here. But you don’t have to drive that far for a fun day on the trails. Johnson City, TN, has its fair share of biking trails without the drive.
Breakfast Club
Located in Tannery Knobs Bike Park, Breakfast Club is an excellent introduction for riders new to mountain biking. One lap on this trail, and new riders will be hooked. It’s also a great warm-up trail for more experienced riders before hitting the rest of the park. It leads to the Baby Flow trail and to Cumberland Braps, one of only two black trails in the park, making this a fun start to any ride.
While riding Breakfast Club, don’t forget to check out the rest of the trails in Tannery Knobs Bike Park. Although it may seem small with only 10 trails, each one is packed full of features. This is the place to practice your skills and even try something new before heading out to some of the more technical trails in the area. And the best part is that it’s all within biking distance from downtown Johnson City!
Tweetsie
Tweetsie is a 10-mile double-track trail connecting Johnson City and Elizabethton. This rail trail gets its unique name from the sound of a locomotive whistle. The trail is relatively flat, with 365 feet of climbing and 440 feet of descent when traveling west to east. This makes it an excellent option for gravel bikes or people who want to get out on a bike but aren’t into mountain biking. Be sure to watch out for hikers when riding here.
Pinnacle Mountain Tower Trail
If you’re looking for a challenge and a view, you must try the Pinnacle Mountain Tower Trail. This 4-and-a-half-mile trail climbs over 1,600 feet to the highest point in Washington County. The trailhead is in Jack Snider Park, with restrooms and changing rooms, making the trail easy to get to. It’s also connected to the rest of the Pinnacle Mountain trail system for people who want to make a day out of it.
Whether you are taking your bike out here in town or making the drive to Asheville, you will need a way to get your bike to the trailhead. The Silverado 1500 can get you to even the most remote spots and easily fit enough bikes for the whole family. To schedule a test drive, call Champion Chevrolet today.
